Fr. Jason Laguerta
The community welcomed Fr. Jason Laguerta as the guest speaker for their regular monthly recollection for September.
Drawing from Matthew 28:19-20, known as The Great Commission, Fr. Jason emphasized his sharing on the Church’s ongoing mission of evangelization particularly on the importance of the elements “going” and “making disciples” found in the passage.
Fr. Jayson also shared an insight into the state of church attendance in the Philippines, citing an SWS survey that revealed a significant drop from 1991 to 2021.

“There are more young people who don’t attend Mass anymore compared to the older generation,” he noted, stressing the growing challenge the Church faces in engaging the youth.
In response, Fr. Jason offered reflective questions to the community in their own monastic context: “How do we ‘make disciples’ today? How do we evangelize?”
Encouraging the community to consider new ways of reaching out, he emphasized the importance of adapting to current times while staying rooted in the mission of spreading the Gospel.
Fr. Jason Laguerta currently serves as the parish priest of Sta. Maria Goretti Parish in Paco, Manila.
